The overarching theme still remains that we are looking for story ideas that can raise awareness of the causes and consequences but also offer positive alternatives. We have suggested some areas of investigation that can aide teams in their research, discussions, and story and message development.

 

Drugs Category: This year we are looking for stories that focus on either cannabis or alcohol.(IDEAL research found that these are the most regularly used amongst young people).

1. If alcohol and cannabis did not exist how would the world be different?

2. Why do some people rely on these substances to get them through the day?

3. Are Cannabis and Alcohol harmful to not only the user but also family and friends?

4.What difference does the law make in preventing or reducing young peoples drinking alcohol or smoking cannabis?

5. What can you as young people do to prevent or reduce peers drinking alcohol or smoking cannabis?

Guns and Knives Category: We are looking for stories that focus on the causes of violent behaviour and how best to avoid it or deal with it peacefully.

1. What causes violent behaviour (verbal or physical)?

2. Does violence ever solve a problem?

3. Why are individuals such as Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi respected the world over for rejecting violence as a way of changing something?

4. Does carrying a weapon make you safer or put you more at risk?

5. How can young people encourage their peers to reject violence and the carrying of weapons?
